Experience and Passion

Meet the Coach

Tannis McKay

Head of Female Soccer Development

My passion for coaching began at a young age when I started volunteering at soccer camps in high school. I quickly found that I loved sharing my passion for the game and having a positive impact on young players. While my focus shifted to playing after graduating high school, coaching always remained something I wanted to return to.

I went on to pursue my dream of playing NCAA Division 1 soccer at Radford University. During my first season, our team won our conference and advanced to the NCAA National Tournament, an experience that gave me a firsthand understanding of the commitment, discipline, and teamwork required to compete at a high level. When the pandemic brought my time in the U.S. to an end, I returned to Canada and continued my playing career with the University of Victoria Vikes, where I had the honour of captaining the team in my final two seasons.

After competing at both the NCAA and U SPORTS levels, I knew I wanted to stay involved in the game. I graduated from the University of Victoria with a degree in Health and Recreation and began building my coaching career, working with players from grassroots through high-performance environments. I have had the opportunity to coach players as young as four years old through university athletes, including roles with Pacific FC’s BCSPL program, St. Margaret’s School, and the University of Victoria Women’s Soccer program.

My experience as both a player and coach has shaped my approach to player development and reinforced the importance of creating an environment where every player feels supported and challenged.

My coaching philosophy is rooted in three core values: respect, growth, and teamwork. I believe in giving players the right tools, knowledge, and confidence to succeed, while encouraging them to express their creativity and individuality. Ultimately, my goal is to help players become better soccer players while also developing the character, leadership, and teamwork skills that will benefit them beyond the field.

Yes, coaches will challenge you to perform high energy, high tempo plyometric style ball manipulation. You can strive to go faster and have a cleaner contact with the ball.

More confidence in 1v1 situations and all around game. Better ball control with both feet. Improved shot power and accuracy with both feet. Core moves and turns to get away from defenders. Lots and lots more.

Yes! In the modern game, Defenders and Goalkeepers are your first line of attack and need to be confident with the ball at their feet. Whether its breaking a line with a dribble or a pass, everyone needs to be confident and comfortable in possession.

8 years old is the prime time to begin refining skills that you will need to excel. Bodies are strong enough and the brain can handle the nuances necessary to start out.

"Anton dedicates his time to combining his knowledge, expertise, and commitment as an elite athlete and coach for the development of young athletes at a level usually reserved for professionals. The results speak for themselves. I have witnessed his achievements both in team and individual settings. Without question, Anton would be the first person I would recommend for the development of any individual or team looking to improve their psychological and physical capacity in a high-performance sport."

James Cameron Pro Player

"Coach Anton has been instrumental in our son's soccer journey. His wealth of experience and skill on the field are evident in every session. What truly sets him apart is his ability to balance structure with fun, making each practice effective and enjoyable. The kids adore him, and it's clear they respect him not just as a coach but as a role model. Under Coach Anton's guidance, our son has improved his soccer skills and further developed a deep love and respect for the game. We are grateful for Coach Anton's dedication and impact on our child's athletic growth and personal development"

Callum Shillington St. Bonaventure University - (NCAA D1)

"I had the opportunity to work with Anton in the later stages of highschool before moving onto division 1 soccer. Anton has a unique perspective on the game that is rarely seen in North American coaches. His coaching style has a clear European touch that is very enjoyable to be coached by. That, and Anton’s ability to connect with his players are two of the main reasons why I believe Anton is an elite coach that all players looking to make the next step can benefit from."
